  • I Love Fashion: Prada Fall 2015

When I see something I like, I feel it in my bones. My senses get all electrified and my heart goes pitter-patter. Miuccia Prada, for instance: her topsy-turvy approach to feminine dressing is always delightful and her color palettes are just wonderful (plus, hello, giant brooches! I must DIY you.) So, for your viewing pleasure, Prada Fall ’15 paired with kooky candy-colored art. I think they pair perfectly, like a cherry on a sundae.

    I Love It: Happy 2015

    February 3, 2015 | No Comments »

Oh hi blog. How are you? Welcome to 2015; it’s been way too long.

This year started off with a bang, or, more accurately, a splash. A very cold splash into the Atlantic Ocean.

Yes, I did the annual Coney Island Polar Bear plunge! If you know me personally, you also know that I’m not what one would normally call a daredevil. But what I do appreciate is some great life changing symbolism and nothing better symbolizes the re-birth that is a new year better than plunging into freezing cold ocean with 2 of my favorite people on earth and 1000 other screaming frolicking strangers! Plus Coney Island is sort of magical in the winter.
I’m hoping 2015 is going bring a lot more uncomfortable life-changing moments for me. It’s time to shake up some routines. Here’s to it!

52 Weeks of Collage: Week 6

    October 9, 2014 | No Comments »

Reflect by Kayte Terry / thisisloveforever.com
New collage! I noticed on Instagram that I’ve been taking a lot of misty green tinged photos lately so this collage continues upon the theme. Also it might be a little ode to Iceland. Reflect is made with watercolor, burned vellum and magazine pages.

    Loving {Forever}: Outlander

    October 7, 2014 | 1 Comment »

Raise your hand if you are watching Outlander, Starz’ gorgeous adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s Scottish highlands time travel series. I am officially hooked and not just because it’s a historical tale finally told from the eyes of one very kick-ass woman or because men look great in kilts but because it is so beautifully shot that I am physically yearning for a trip to the highlands.  And on the fashion front, Outlander could do for plaid and hand knit cowls what Twin Peaks did for saddle shoes and Gossip Girl did for headbands.
Witness below, my Scottish fashion fantasy:

    A Collage Experiment

    May 21, 2014 | No Comments »

From time to time, I teach classes on creativity using collage as the medium. The first exercise is always my favorite: I give each student a little bag of papers, fabrics and ephemera and they have to use some part of each piece (no cheating!) to make a 20 minute collage. It’s a great way to open your mind on days when you are feeling blocked and can’t bear to stare at a blank canvas any longer. By imposing a few rules, you can’t overthink your work, you just have to get by on intuition.
A few days ago, I was feeling similarly blocked and I treated myself to this exercise. I had a few surprise packs left over from my class at Craftcation, and since it had been a while, I couldn’t remember exactly what was in them. So I opened one…

    I Love Paris: Part 2

    April 23, 2014 | No Comments »

There’s something so very French about a flea market. Or at least this is true in my mind. We spent an entire day at the Marché aux Puces St-Ouen de Clignancourt, exploring what felt like thousands upon thousands of tiny stalls, some crammed to the brim with antiques, others staged impeccably as if they were theater sets. The larger flea market is divided into many smaller flea markets, like a tiny city and its maze of neighborhoods. It’s not cheap so I did more looking than shopping. Here’s what I saw:

    I Love Paris: Part 3

    April 22, 2014 | 4 Comments »

About a month ago, I went to Paris for three days. A funny thing about me and Paris: I have always loved it, but from afar. On four separate occasions, I have been this close to going, only to get the rug pulled out at the last minute. But I always knew Paris would fit me just like a glove and thank goodness I was right.
Because it was a work trip I got a few extra luxuries I would normally, like a stay in a jewel-box boutique hotel that was permanently cloaked in romantic amber light or a magical dinner in a Wes Anderson-esque restaurant hiding behind a gate, then another, then beyond a courtyard. The most wonderful things in Paris seems to be hidden just out of plain sight, secrets for the curious and the patient.
Today, I’m going to share the first round of photos. Stay tuned for lots more!

    Arizona in Instagram

    February 6, 2014 | 2 Comments »

I took a few days off last week to visit my dad and soak up some sun in Arizona. A few of my favorite things: citrus trees heavy with fruit casting shadows on white stucco, seguaros standing tall in the desert, climbing up Camelback Mountain, visiting Paolo Soleri’s amazing ceramic studio Cosanti, eating tacos and guacamole and oh, that big blue sky.

    A Bed of Roses

    September 3, 2013 | No Comments »

    Roses
I’m in a little bit of a post-Iceland lull these past few weeks and thinking a lot about “the big issues” in life. It’s funny, even though I am in my mid-thirties I still have the sense that, any moment now, my real life is about to start. I think I am letting too much pass by me, waiting, waiting for someone to tell me that life is happening now, all around me. The good life can’t always be about the big things, like a trip to Iceland. Sometimes it’s the little things- the pink velvet petals of roses in full bloom, a perfect cup of coffee, a lazy weekend cuddle with a fluffy orange cat, that make life grand.
