  • I’m So Very Thankful

This year, we were lucky enough to host our family for Thanksgiving. It’s a big milestone when you can invite your mom into your home to share a Thanksgiving meal that you cooked. I am now a bonafide adult.
One of the themes running through our family gatherings lately is the concept of embracing imperfection. The plates don’t need to match, not everything is going to go perfectly (shoot, I forgot to buy a gravy boat!), the kids will inevitably drop pie on the rug, but it’s all marvelous and wonderful anyway because you’re all together.
Somewhere towards the end of our cooking marathon on Thursday, came a great reminder of the joy of being together: I had the radio tuned to jazz and standards and Louis Armstrong was crooning away. My Mr. seized the moment and grabbed my hand and we started dancing in the kitchen. My 5 year old niece followed, hopping around the floor in her socks. Then came my 3 year old nephew, my mom and step-father and my sister-in-law and her husband. Soon enough, we were all twirling around the kitchen. It was like a scene from a romantic holiday comedy, but it was real.
I think I will remember that moment for the rest of my life. And for this, I am so very thankful.

I hope you too had a peaceful and joyful holiday with many more to come!
