Instagram is Magical
A couple times a week, I make the two mile long walk from my house to Whole Foods. I pass through a few neighborhoods and sights that are both ugly (the snaking lines in front of Pat's and Geno's at all hours of the day, the live poultry market that looks as unsanitary as it smells) and awesome (the colorful stalls of the Italian Market, a block of wood fence on Ninth Street covered in grafitti). Walking alone has always been my form of meditation. It gives me a chance to observe all the tiny details of my city, little things that I usually miss. Since I've started using Instagram I have been even more observant. I've noticed that I take the time to stop, to look and to listen. It's made me like my city more.
There's a lot to love about Instagram: it makes even the most challenged photographer an artist, it offers yet another way to stay in touch with friends and meet people online, and it keeps you observant and active throughout your day. Sure, the cynical would say that the world doesn't need more faux-vintage photos of cats, what you ate for brunch and street art but I say phooey on you jaded haters!
This month, I'm going to take the big plunge and do one of the photo-a-day challenges created by Fat Mum Slim.
If you want to join in, go here to get all the details! I'll post my photos throughout the month. Oh and if you want to be Instagram pals, I'm kaytet over there.
