Sherri Markovitz

A couple of weeks ago I went to the brand new location of the Museum of Art and Design, one of my favorite New York museums. There were so many beautiful pieces there and I am going to highlight a few of the artists that I saw over the next couple of weeks.

Sherry Markovitz is a mixed media artist who often works with beads. I am particularly drawn to her animal heads, which she started making in 1981. Says Sherry, "I began the series of ornamented animal trophy heads of deer, elk and moose and wild cats...they are beautiful images of rebirth, the death somewhat masked by their beauty. They are also a feminization of the traditionally male role as hunter, which has for centuries carried an unspoken taboo for women."

While taxidermy has been a design trend for quite a while now, Sherry's approach to it is thoughtful and beautiful. And of course her work pre-dates any of the trendiness of deer heads.

And the winner is...

Karen! Congrats Karen, you won the French General giveaway! I will be sending you an email shortly.

For everyone else, I am doing yet another giveaway this week so stay tuned!

Another Fall Project on Craft Stylish

Oh how I love fall and winter! Here's another project celebrating nature's bounty.

I have a little centerpiece tutorial up on Craft Stylish. You might recognize it as a variation of one I did last year. I like to think of this one as Fall Centerpiece 2.0, new and improved.

Oh, plus, I got to use my new fabric from Summersville. So so lovely!

domestic-construction

Domestic Construction is a multi-disciplinary design studio, founded in 2007 by Trish Andersen and Maureen Walsh, specializing in interiors, environments and one of a kind fashion and home products.  This Brooklyn based duo strives to keep the touch of the hand present in this world driven by mass production and conformity.  Through this process a new sense of individuality and identity are formed.

I met Trish and Maureen working at Anthro and they also contributed a project to/were sassy models in my book. These ladies are super-talented! They can do anything.

If you are looking for an amazing handmade wall treatment or a beautiful display in your home, office or store, give them a call. Oh and check out this awesome video on their site that shows their process of working on a custom wall surface. It's so cool!
